Arrested skating coach also accused of sex abuse

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. - A coach arrested on a warrant from Essex County, N.Y., is accused in a lawsuit of fondling a teenage figure skater.

The lawsuit filed in July in Prince George's County, Md., alleges Genrikh Sretenski kissed the girl and touched her breasts in July 2011 in a hotel room. It also alleges he sent her more than 500 text messages. The lawsuit, filed by the girl's father, says the girl has ended her skating career because of what happened. As a result, it seeks $5 million in damages.

The Associated Press does not identify alleged victims of sexual assault and is not naming the girl's father to protect her identity.

Sretenski was arrested Tuesday in Howard County on the New York criminal warrant. Authorities there won't talk about the case, but the coach's attorney says he is innocent.

Authorities in New York haven't released details of the case against Sretenski, 50, except to say it involves an incident that allegedly took place Sept. 16, 2011, in the village of Lake Placid. A call to state police Lt. Scott Heggelke wasn't immediately returned Thursday afternoon.

Sretenski, who was born in Moscow, competed across Europe. He and ice dancing partner Natalia Annenko placed fourth at the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary.
